Smith is owner and the principal
artist of Smith Studios, located
in Livingston, MT. After receiving
his BFA from Montana State University
(MSU) in 1986, Matt accepted a
job as the Artist in Residence
at The Museum of the Rockies (MOR).
Working with paleontologist Jack
Horner, Matt created skeletal
armatures and life restorations
of Montana’s extinct paleo-fauna
which are on exhibit at the MOR.
During his tenure at the MOR,
Matt continued his education in
the Department of Biology at the
MSU, focusing on biomechanics
and comparative anatomy. Matt
launched Smith Studios in 1991.
His sculptures and skeletal reconstructions
are on exhibit in museums around
the world, including Japan, Spain,
China, and Argentina. Matt’s
international experience includes
on-site collaborative work with
the Chinese and Argentines in
the exchange of molding, casting,
and ironwork techniques. Matt
joins Syncreta Associates
to continue developing natural
history exhibits. |
